Term One

Our value this term is Thankfulness 

Our enquiry is: What makes me unique and belong?

This term the children are going to be diving deeper into the question ‘What makes me unique and belong?’ To explore this we use mini enquiries.

Our mini enquiries are:

• Who am I?
• What makes me unique?
• What makes us different?
• Where do I belong?
• What is a family?
• Who is in our community?
• What is special about our school?

To deepen our learning, we will read key texts related to the enquiries and have lot of class discussion whereby all children will get the chance to share what makes them unique and belong.

Phonics

As a school we follow Read Write Inc. The children will begin by learning their set 1 sounds. When they know a handful of these they can start to orally blend e.g. m-a-t becomes mat. This will then transfer to them being able to read CVC words. We will encourage the children to apply their sound knowledge across the provision.

Maths

Across the term, the children will develop themselves as mathematician. We will work on counting skills, subitising, number recognition, composition of numbers, patterns, shape, space and measure. The children will have daily short burst lessons and be given lots of opportunities tp explore mathematic concepts through the provision.

R.E

In R.E we discuss what it means to belong, through discussions about groups, clubs, families and religions and how these are important in our everyday lives.

PSHE

This term’s unit is ‘Being me in my world’. First we will consider where we belong,. We will then go on to discuss out feelings and how we can manage these. We will also look at kindness and the rights of the child.

PE

Our PE day is on Wednesday. Within our PE sessions we will develop our gross motor skills. In term one this will centre around balance and footwork.

How we learn in Reception

The children are provided with regular opportunities of prolonged periods of play whereby they are able to access all areas of the Early Years Curriculum, whether this be in the creative area, role play area, construction area or a mix of it all. The classroom and provision is carefully planned to enhance the areas that we want children to develop in and is regularly updated based on our formative assessment.
